Luther and the Reformation
Martin Luther was a young scholar who found fault and immorality within the Catholic, in that the Church would sell indulgences to people to forgive them of their sins. The Church would then use a lot of that money to either fund the building of new religous facilities or to spend however the priests wanted to. Luther rejected this idea and felt that people should not have to pay for forgiveness. Many of Luther's ideals were sparked as he read from the bible, Romans
1:17 from the passages of the Epistles of St. Paul: "For the justice of God is revealed from faith to faith in that it is written, for the just shall live by faith." Luther felt that one could get into Heaven by living a life of faith and not by indulgences. On the eve of All Saints Day, Luther nailed a copy of the Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the Castle Church at Wittenberg. These theses all disputed that practices of the Catholic church and after being translated, it was copied and spread quickly for everyone to read. Many agreed with Luther's ideas and began to follow him to separate from the Catholic church. They thought that Luther's ideas made more sense and that they would save more money by following his ideas.

I think Luther was an important part of the reformation. Many people before him spoke out against the Church but he provided backing from the Bible.I think that is why so many people were willing to follow his teaching.Becuase of Luther many denominations that we know today were established.
I think the Catholic idea of selling indulgences to people is a bit ridiculous. The idea sounds like the Catholics were trying to rip people off and are simply trying to get other people's money.
Do you think that the priests were right to sell indulgences even if they were using the money to better the church, even though many of them weren't? I think that the Catholic idea of selling indulgences was outrageous. It was unfair to trick the members of that faith into thinking that they could do whatever they wanted they would simply pay an indulgence and everything would be forgiven.
I believe that Luther played an important role in the reformation. It's interesting to learn exactly how he felt about the reformation and what role he did play.I did not know the Catholics were like that it was interesting to find that out also.
I think that Luther's ideas were an important part of the Reformation, but most of all his aggressive manner of being public with his opinions was important. He sparked new ideas of going against what people had always believed and followed through the government religiosly.
Luther was definitely an important part of the Reformation. He was one of the first to be recognized as a major reformer of the time. His actions caused others who disagreed with the Catholic church to either follow him or stand up for what they thought was right. Every major movement or reform has to have a dynamic leader - Luther was one of the first for the Reformation.
You forgot that the priests corruption was more than just charging for indulgences. These "holy" men would have wives and prostitutes, though in their vows they swore not to indulge in physical desires. They would buy luxurious fur trimmed robes and coats and sometimes buy food from the market in front of the hungry and then throw it on the ground, ruined. Many people look over the true corruption of the Church before the reformation because it is uncomfortable to picture the Church ever being that different from what we picture today.
Indeed, Luther was a very important guy to the Reformation and many current religions too. I think he was just brave enough to come out with his appeals against the church which is why so many others were willing to follow.
